How do you utilize an empty room above a commercial kitchen?

REVEL REVEL is an event space in downtown San Diego. With a max capacity of 244 guests, the venue became a quiet space by day -- rented out for business meetings and sleepy lectures, but by night, this space transformed into a dance club with a revolving door of resident DJs. It was this link of two unlikely groups coming together that made the venue a financial success.

Project Overview

  • Market research

  • Worked closely with third party design vendors and client

  • Developed brand voice, web copy, and marketing one-sheets

  • Designed website

  • Managed social media channels

  • Worked with a tight quarterly advertising budget

The client came to us with the concept of transforming an empty space above their commercial kitchen into an event space. We conducted research and learned that due to its smaller size, the event space would not be a likely destination for weddings, (the most common event thrown at rental venues).

With the location of the venue conveniently placed in San Diego’s Gaslamp Quarter, there were a bountiful number of companies and offices within a few block radius. Revel Revel marketed itself to these businesses which became a perfect destination for team-building meetings and holiday parties. We were able to fill the other half of the calendar by booking local DJs and giving them a place to share dance music with their followers.

Results

Years later, Revel Revel has embraced its voice and established itself as one of the most popular venues in downtown San Diego. Most importantly, it provides a real service to the community; the venue has become an inspiring space for local businesses to strategize new opportunities with their team, for families to celebrate milestones, to attracting more revenue to neighboring bars and restaurants Revel Revel’s growing list of nightly concerts.
